About The COVID Beirut Blast Initiative (COBI)

The COVID Beirut Blast Initiatives (COBI) is an initiative of the Global Health Institute at the American University of Beirut which aims to ensure safety during the imminent COVID-19 pandemic which remains as the backdrop amidst the Beirut explosion. This initiative entails the distribution of masks and hand sanitizers to the volunteers, healthcare workers, officials and members of civil society working tirelessly to tackle the destruction of the city, and to restore our livelihoods after the tragic blast.

As COVID-19 cases surge throughout the country, this campaign aims to remind all of us to maintain as much safety precaution as possible while we move forward through this difficult period.

Four stands will be strategically located in the most affected area to provide masks and sanitizers. Additionally volunteers will walk throughout Beirut and neighboring affected areas to ensure everyone is wearing a mask, and distribute them to those who are not.

A comprehensive map of stations set up across the region will be shared on social media and online platforms.

Let us stand together, safely.
