ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

The internship program at the Global Health Institute (GHI) aims to enhance the knowledge and nurture skills of young individuals in an exciting, rewarding, and a diverse environment dedicated to the betterment of health, regionally and globally. The 6 GHI internship paths are detailed below.

GHI INTERNSHIP PATHS

This internship aims to equip the intern with academic writing, data management, and data analysis skills in addition to expanding knowledge of research fields within the GHI programs:  Conflict Medicine ProgramRefugee Health ProgramE-Sahha ProgramEpidemic and Pandemic Preparedness Program and Evaluation of Capacity Building.

Internship recommended duration: 2-3 months.
Internship eligibility:

Obtained or is pursuing a degree in Basic Science, Data Science, Public Health, Medicine or related fields.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Proficiency in English.

Internship potential tasks:
  • Creating and structuring questionnaires and surveys or adapting pre-existing and validated ones as well as how to approach routinely collected data and surveillance records.
  • Entering and formatting data in spreadsheets and/or databases for effective research data use.
  • Participating in data analysis using qualitative and/or quantitative methodological approaches.
  • Compiling and organizing research findings in graphs, tables, and diagrams etc. and create PowerPoint presentations.

This internship aims to equip the intern with experience in social media management and strategies while ensuring the exposure of GHI programs, services, and activities in various social media platforms, including Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and YouTube.

Internship recommended duration: 1-3 months.
Internship eligibility:

Obtained or is pursuing a degree in Social Media, Communications or related fields .

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Proficiency in English.

Internship potential tasks:
  • Assisting with the design and execution of social media campaigns.
  • Working alongside the communications team to create a plan for social media strategies.
  • Assisting in implementing plans to increase followers on popular social media platforms such as Twitter,Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and LinkedIn.
  • Ensuring that social media posts are in line with GHI’s mission, vision, and communications strategies.
  • Interacting with followers and answering questions through GHI’s social media platforms.
  • Tracking social media engagement to identify high-performing ideas and campaigns for scalability.
  • Creating and distributing content such as blogs, infographics & videos.
  • Creating social media posts during live and online events.

This internship aims to equip the intern with academic writing experience and exposure through working on various academic publications, reports, short pieces, and other texts.

Internship recommended duration: 1-3 months.
Internship eligibility:
Obtained or is pursuing a degree in Translation, English Literature, Law, Public Health, or related fields.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Proficiency in English and Arabic.

Internship potential tasks:
  • Writing announcements, social media posts, and communication pieces in coordination with the Communications Team.
  • Translating various texts including interviews, web pages, manuscripts, etc.
  • Drafting short/blog articles.
  • Drafting Literature Reviews, Backgrounds and Overviews for larger academic articles and research.
  • Drafting Literature Reviews, Backgrounds and Overviews for grant applications and proposals.
  • Copy editing and referencing.
  • Proofreading and fact-checking articles.
  • Transcribing Key Informant Interviews and Focus Group Discussions.

This internship aims to equip the intern with administrative and event management experience while ensuring proper operations during GHI’s events and academic occasions.

Internship recommended duration: 1-3 months.
Internship eligibility:
Obtained or is pursuing a degree in Management, Business, Sales, Public Health, or related fields.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency in English and Arabic.
Internship potential tasks:
  • Preparing guest lists and emailing lists related to the event.
  • Helping in the logistics such as flight booking, transportations and hotel reservations.
  • Preparing the printing materials, gadgets and send them to printing house.
  • Preparing distribution material and double check the room on the day of the event (podium, chairs, laptops…etc).
  • Translating various texts, plans, and agendas.

This internship aims to equip the intern with knowledge in the management of marketing & business development operations under the supervision of the NGOi Manager.

Internship recommended duration: 2-3 months.
Internship eligibility:
Obtained or is pursuing a degree in Business, Marketing or related fields.
Familiarity with marketing tools and procedures.
Ability to take direction and absorb information quickly.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English & Arabic.
Must have a passion for marketing.
Internship potential tasks:
  • Performing market analysis and research.
  • Identifying and contacting prospective clients or partner companies.
  • Promoting NGOi services via promotional activities.
  • Contributing to the development of a marketing plan.
  • Identifying new development channels.
  • Assisting in administrative tasks.

This internship aims to equip the intern with field work experience and exposure through assisting in delivering awareness sessions and activities to vulnerable communities.

Internship recommended duration: 2-3 months.
Internship eligibility:

Obtained or is pursuing a degree in Public Health, Nutrition or related fields.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English & Arabic.

Internship potential tasks:
  • Assisting in field visits, field activity organization, social media posts, and communication pieces in coordination with the Communications Team.
  • Translating various texts including interviews, activity content, focus group discussions etc.
  • Coordinating WhatsApp groups with female refugees and host communities.
  • Extracting content (Women’s Health related) from previously prepared educational material.

SUPERVISION & MENTORSHIP

The intern will be supervised and mentored by a GHI staff from a relevant department or division throughout the whole duration of the internship. The appointed GHI staff will ensure direct supervision of day-to-day tasks and follow up on project progress/completion, reporting and submissions.

  • If your application was shortlisted, you will be contacted by the internship program coordinator for an interview.
  • If your application was successful, you will receive an acceptance email detailing your next steps.

Internship Expectations

Throughout the duration of the internship, each intern is expected to:

  • Schedule an induction meeting with the intern supervisor to discuss the internship project and fill out the project plan form to specify project tasks and timeline.
  • Share the activities, outputs, planed tasks, and challenges with the internship supervisor on a weekly basis, using the weekly report template.
  • Using GHI PowerPoint Template, present the following at the end of the internship period:
    1. The project tasks and timeline
    2. The process and challenges faced
    3. The findings and reflection on the learning process
  • Fill out internship evaluation form.
