Scholarship Program for Conflict Medicine

Empowering Healthcare Professionals in Lebanon in Times of War

ABOUT THE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

Lebanon, already recognized as a fragile and conflict-affected country, is now facing a severe public health crisis that is further exacerbated by the recent escalation of hostilities. With over 1,500 lives lost and more than 9,000 injured, healthcare professionals are facing insurmountable challenges in delivering essential medical care. The destruction of hospitals, shortages of supplies and healthcare workers, along with the ongoing violence, have further crippled an already fragile healthcare system. With healthcare facilities being systematically dismantled and medical personnel struggling with inadequate resources, the need for specialized training in conflict medicine has become more critical than ever.

To address these urgent needs, the Global Health Institute (GHI) at the American University of Beirut (AUB) has launched the “GHI Scholarship Program for Conflict Medicine: Empowering Healthcare Professionals in Lebanon in Times of War”. This initiative aims to strengthen the medical preparedness and response of Lebanon’s healthcare professionals by equipping them with the skills to conduct research and deliver medical care that is contextualized to the settings of conflict and fragility. Through 20 fully-funded scholarships, healthcare professionals in Lebanon will have the opportunity to enroll in the Certificate in Conflict Medicine, enabling them to provide critical care during and beyond the ongoing war. Successful applicants will gain a certificate and join a global network of healthcare professionals dedicated to conflict medicine.
