Description
This certificate aims to equip learners with the knowledge and skills needed to address the health impacts of climate change in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, with a strong focus on social justice, resilience, and policy action. The program consists of four online, asynchronous courses: (Foundations of Climate Change and Health: A Regional Focus on MENA, Climate and Health Policy in MENA: Advocacy and Action, Health Systems Resilience in the Context of Climate Change: An Emphasis on MENA, and Intersectional Perspectives on Climate Change, Health, and Social Justice in MENA)
Through interdisciplinary content and region-specific case studies, the certificate empowers learners to critically engage with the interconnected challenges of climate change, health systems, and social inequalities. It also enhances participants’ capacity to advocate for climate-health policy reforms, design equitable interventions, and strengthen healthcare systems against climate-related threats across fragile and vulnerable settings. It is delivered through GHI’s online learning platform GHLAD.
Core Courses
The certificate core courses introduce key concepts at the intersection of climate change and health, with a focus on the MENA region’s unique vulnerabilities. They explore how climate-related stressors, such as extreme heat, water scarcity, displacement, and disease, impact health outcomes and strain healthcare systems. The courses also address the policy, advocacy, and equity dimensions of climate-health challenges, emphasizing the disproportionate burdens on marginalized communities. Through MENA-grounded content and interdisciplinary approaches, the certificate equips learners with the knowledge and tools needed to support climate-resilient, socially just health systems in fragile and climate-affected settings.
