The Global Health Change Makers | Pitch Competition

The Global Health Change Makers is a pitch competition organized by the Global Health Institute (GHI) at the American University of Beirut (AUB), in celebration of the Institute’s 5th year anniversary. The competition aims to provide a platform for individuals enrolled in universities in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region to present project ideas related to Global Health & the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through a 5-minute pitch for a chance to win seed funding.

  • Individuals enrolled in undergraduate, graduate, or postgraduate programs at credible universities in the MENA region are eligible to apply.
  • Applications can be submitted individually or in groups of up to 3 individuals.
  • Groups can include individuals from different universities from the same country or different countries across the MENA region.
  • Groups should elect a group representative to present the pitch, if shortlisted.

Applicants should submit their project ideas in English through the pitch competition form. At this stage, the applicants will be asked to submit the project title and structured abstract (300 words). Both research project and service provision project ideas are accepted.

  • A selection committee will review the submitted applications, and applicants with shortlisted project ideas will be invited to submit a 4-page concept note including rationale, project objectives, methodology, outcome indicators, relevance to global health and SDGs, implementation timeline, and dissemination/visibility plan.
  • A committee of experts will review the submitted concept notes and shortlist the project ideas that will be presented by the finalists as a 5-minute pitch.
  • Each finalist will be assigned to a mentor from the Global Health Institute who will meet with the applicant/group in a coaching session in preparation for the competition.
  • Finalists will present their project idea through a 5-minute pitch in English, in Beirut – Lebanon on the day of the competition.
  • A jury of experts will select the competition winners based on the submitted concept notes and the 5-minute pitch.
