Description

This online course is designed to equip NGOs’ managers and officers engaged in decision making with skills needed to develop a DRR plan based on situational analysis and comprehensive assessment of the risks portfolio within their NGO’s field and areas of operation. The course also aims to build the capacity of NGOs staff in identifying donors and funding opportunities that support DRR planning and implementation, with an emphasis on proposal writing requirements. This course will enable participants to complement their DRR plans with practical steps and considerations for implementation pre, during, and post-crises/disasters.

   
Subject Matter Expert
Zahi Chahine, MA, MBA  

As the Head of the Disaster Risk Management Unit at the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Mr. Chahine is spearheading national efforts to enhance Lebanon’s resilience to withstand natural and manmade disasters. With extensive experience in the local and international public and private sector, he has been investing in his expertise to set the business case to integrate disaster risk reduction into development and resilience. He is overseeing the development and update of national disaster risk reduction strategies that will feed into national action plans. He works with national counterparts to enhance disaster risk reduction structure, capacities and skills. Under his leadership the DRM Unit has further evolved making use of human, technical, and technological resources and innovations to safeguard lives, assets, and infrastructure and development gains. Mr. Chahine is also the National Technical focal point for the Sendai Framework and rapporteur for several national disaster committees. Mr. Chahine holds a master’s degree in law and master’s degree in business.
