About the Global Health Institute

Established in 2017, the Global Health Institute (GHI) at the American University of Beirut (AUB) is the first global health institute in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, and is one of the very few in the Global South. GHI addresses global health challenges with a focus on context and sustainable impact by employing an interdisciplinary approach. The primary focus of GHI are challenges that are affecting the MENA region, but have relevance to and impact on other regions in the global south.

The work of GHI is defined by three divisions: (1) GHI Programs, which focus on generating context-specific research, policy, and advocacy to address major global health challenges in the region, (2) GHI ASSIST, which provides community-based services and interventions to address the needs of vulnerable and underserved populations, and (3) GHI Academy which delivers contextualized global health education to various populations through smart and innovative learning modalities.

About the Communications Unit

The Communications Unit at the Global Health Institute (GHI) leads the Institute’s internal and external communications efforts, ensuring alignment with GHI’s mission to advance global health. The Unit is responsible for producing clear and engaging content, managing digital platforms, supporting programs visibility, and disseminating key messages to stakeholders. It works in close collaboration with all GHI divisions and programs to support outreach, awareness, and engagement across local, regional, and international audiences.

Post Description

The Associate Communications Officer supports the execution of GHI’s communication strategy through content creation, social media coordination, and digital outreach. Under the supervision of the Communications Manager, the Communications Associate contributes to promoting GHI’s programs, events, and initiatives through creative communication materials and platforms. The ideal candidate brings both strong creative and organizational skills, with a particular focus on visual content development and digital engagement. The role requires strong skills in visual design, writing, organization, and collaboration.

The candidate will be responsible of the following tasks:

  • Content Creation & Design
    • Design visually appealing digital and print materials including reports, flyers, social media graphics, and presentations, using tools such as Canva and CapCut.
    • Create and edit short videos, reels, and animations for social media and digital campaigns.
    • Ensure all visual content aligns with GHI’s vision and maintains consistency across platforms.
  • Social Media & Digital Engagement
    • Support the planning, creation, and scheduling of content across all social media channels (Instagram, LinkedIn, X, Facebook, etc.).
    • Monitor social media trends and analytics to help optimize engagement and performance.
    • Assist in performance tracking of social media posts and campaigns.
  • Internal & External Communications
    • Write and edit content such as engaging social media captions, newsletters, press releases, reports, and web content.
    • Assist in compiling content and updates from different teams and divisions to ensure consistent messaging, and translate them into engaging content.
    • Coordinate with external people (designers, videographers, printshops, media) when needed.
  • Events & Campaigns Support
    • Contribute to the visual and promotional planning of events (flyers, banners, digital invitations).
    • Support on-site and virtual coverage of events (photos, stories, live posts, live broadcasting via Zoom).
    • Help document testimonials, and behind-the-scenes content.
    • Contribute to the development and execution of digital campaigns for different divisions, programs, projects, online offerings and events.

Qualifications and Application

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, media studies, marketing, graphic design, or a related field. A relevant Master’s degree is a plus.
  • At least 2 years of professional experience in communications, digital content creation, or social media management, preferably in global health, academic, or nonprofit sectors.
  • Strong graphic design skills and proficiency in tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and other platforms.
  • Strong command of social media platforms (Instagram, LinkedIn, X, Facebook & YouTube), with experience managing organizational accounts and tracking analytics.
  • Demonstrated skills in writing and editing for diverse audiences, with the ability to develop compelling content for web, social media, newsletters, and reports.
  • Experience in supporting communications for events, including visual branding, logistics coordination, and rollouts.
  • Familiarity with digital trends, campaign ideation, and translating complex ideas into clear, engaging visual and written formats.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team while also managing independent tasks, and meeting deadlines under pressure.
  • High attention to detail, especially in formatting, visual consistency, and tone of messaging.
  • Proactive and creative mindset with strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English and Arabic. French is a plus.
