Humanitarian disasters are complex in nature, and they tend to have recurrent long-term effects that disturb the normal functions of the affected communities. The humanitarian response to such disasters aims to address issues of resilience, recovery and livelihoods. This course is designed to effectively train professionals working in humanitarian context to be able to organize and lead humanitarian responses during times of crisis. The course will cover the fundamentals of disaster management in alignment with sphere standards and core humanitarian standards as well as sector specific interventions like WASH, health, food security and nutrition, shelter… Moreover, it will guide participants to conduct effective emergency needs assessment in context of humanitarian disasters. Furthermore, it will provide key tools and techniques that are needed for efficient and effective operations management. It will trigger participants to employ critical thinking to organize and lead proactive, safe, scalable, and data driven operations in response to disasters. The course is dissected into easily comprehensible sessions that will provide clarity and ease of adoption in day-to-day tasks along with practical examples and best practices from the region.
