The 30-hour foundation course GHUM 307 “Fundamentals of Humanitarian Action in Practice” essentially aims at serving as a stepping stone for developing expertise for humanitarian practitioners, researchers and policy makers globally. The course portrays how International Humanitarian Law (IHL) guides the conduct of hostilities, mitigates the consequences of warfare, restrains the use of force, and protects civilians in armed conflicts. The course also discusses the role of IHRL (International Human Rights Law) in conflict settings as well as ways and means to enforce adherence to both sets of rules.
