Social & Cultural Factors Related to Health

Course Overview
This course describes the social and cultural determinants
of health with a focus on the sociocultural model as compared to the disease
model. Theories of knowledge such as naturalism and the anthropological
perspectives on understanding culture as well as positivism are discussed. The
course also explores several sociocultural concepts relating to health such as
interdisciplinary medicine, recognizing the culture of medicine, and cultural
humility.
