Special Call for Articles: The State of Health in the Post-Beirut Blast Era

The Beirut blast has had a profound impact on every aspect of Lebanon’s population. Amid an ongoing pandemic, the blast has exacerbated health concerns, and generated new challenges to Lebanon’s health care system as it continues to struggle through both an economic crisis and political fragility.

The AUB Global Health Institute’s ‘South of Global Health’ Blog (https://ghi.aub.edu.lb/ghi-blog/) is currently interested in articles and opinion pieces on the intersections of these health, conflict, political and economic realities:

Areas of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • The impact of the Beirut blast on the escalating COVID-19 spread in Lebanon
  • The political economy of health in the post-blast era
  • The ongoing economic crisis and its impact on the health sector post-blast
  • The impact of the blast on mental health
  • The impact of the blast on the wellbeing and health of Lebanon’s vulnerable populations (i.e. refugees, internally displaced, migrant workers, vulnerable Lebanese factions of society)
  • The effect of COVID-19 lockdown on the reconstruction of Beirut
Recommended precautionary measures, mobility measures and policy directives amid a surge in COVID-19 cases
