ABOUT THE CERTIFICATE IN CONFLICT MEDICINE
The Online Certificate in Conflict Medicine was developed by the Global Health Institute at the American University of Beirut, in partnership with R4HC Consortium. The Certificate in Conflict Medicine employs a contextualized approach to explore how medical care and research can be shaped and undertaken in settings of conflict and fragility. The Certificate in Conflict Medicine is designed for medical practitioners, nurses, medical trainees, medical and nursing students, and other allied health professionals.

CERTIFICATE STRUCTURE
The Certificate in Conflict Medicine tackles the major themes in conflict medicine and health. All certificate courses require 30 hours to complete. The courses are delivered through the Global Health Learning and Development (GHLAD) platform, GHI’s online learning platform. To obtain the certificate, each learner must complete four courses, 30 hours each, for a total of 120 hours of learning. All courses are online and asynchronous so that learners can undertake them depending on their availability and time commitment. Certificate courses include:
Introduction to Conflict Medicine
Health Research Methods in Conflict
Medical Care and Clinical Knowledge in Conflict
Learners can choose one of three specialty courses:

CERTIFICATE COMPETENCIES
- Identify the principles and concepts of conflict medicine in contemporary wars
- Demonstrate an understanding of health determinants in conflict settings
- Describe how conflict reshapes healthcare delivery in affected populations
- Design and apply qualitative and quantitative research methods in the context of a conflict setting
- Recognize the ethical and security implications when conducting research in conflict settings
- Demonstrate an in-depth understanding about one of the major challenges faced in conflict: cancer research/infectious diseases/management of wounds and injuries
